Welcome to GCER!

We are Gloucestershire's Local Environmental Records Centre. We provide a unique source of information about the wildlife and natural environment of our county. Our database is updated continuously and forms a primary evidence base for a wide range of biodiversity conservation work.

Wildlife in Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire is a special place for wildlife. A huge amount of information is generated here by naturalist groups, individual members of the public, conservation NGOs and government agencies.

Over a third of the county is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and includes areas of high biodiversity such as the Forest of Dean, Severn Vale, Cotswold hills and Cotswold Water Park. However, not all our wildlife is in the countryside: lots of records also come from urban areas and gardens. GCER works with wildlife recorders to collate, curate and share this wealth of information.

GCER services

In addition to collating and processing incoming information, we provide data and GIS services to a wide range of organisations and commercial data users. Our aim is to ensure that wildlife knowledge is available for the benefit of biodiversity conservation in Gloucestershire and in a wider, strategic context.
